Would you consider yourself to be a good neighbor? Really, think about it.
Do you know the names of your neighbors? Do you think they'd consider you to be a great neighbor? And more importantly, do you think they have a better view of Islam and Muslims because of you?
If your answer to any of these questions is a strong No, then you're probably overlooking a huge act of kindness that's sitting right in front of you. The Prophet (saw) always emphasized the importance of being a good and kind neighbor, even if it was in the smallest of gestures. He (saw) said to Abu Dharr (ra), "When you prepare broth, add water to it, and give that (as a present) to your neighbor" (Sahih Muslim).
A small, easy act of kindness can go a long way. A smile, some soup when you've caught them coughing outside their door, or even, an invitation to join you for iftar one evening in Ramadan.
Ramadan is the perfect time to reach out to your neighbors and tell them a little about yourself. We've tried to make this easy for you by creating a casual, friendly invite template, which you can edit to suit your needs. Don't feel overwhelmed by the idea of inviting your neighbors for iftar; you can make it as easy as you want. Invite one family or invite four. Make a lavish meal or keep it simple. Remember, they have no expectations and will really just appreciate the gesture so much. Don't believe us? A simple iftar invite can restore your neighbor's faith in humanity. Wow! What must they think of us and why are we so passive in trying to impact their perception in a positive way?
We hope this encourages you to slow down a bit this Ramadan and take advantage of a good deed that you may often overlook. Download our Iftar Invite template here, and be sure to share this with your friends so they're encouraged to be good neighbors as well.
