Ramadan Date Jars

Ramadan Date Jars | www.ModernMuslimHome.com

The most wonderful time of the year is right around the corner! Many of you might be feeling both nervous and excited. To us, Ramadan is a time of spiritual peace and beautiful traditions. It’s a time of both quiet solitude and busy socialization, patient discipline along with food, family, and feasting. A beautiful balance of self and community.

One of the Ramadan traditions our family loves is giving small date packages to close friends and family at the start of the month. It’s a sweet way to share your excitement with those you love while asking them to keep you in their du’aas when they break their fast.

In the past, we’ve always used small baskets and spent some time packaging them nicely. This year, we are so very excited to share a fresh, new idea on how to package your dates: Ramadan date jars! We’re so in love with mason jars these days and thought it would be the perfect, hassle-free way to make the cutest little gifts! (Photos below!)

What you need:

  1. Dates
  2. Mason Jars (We used pint-sized. You can get these from Amazon here)
  3. "Ramadan Kareem" labels (We've provided them for you! Download them for free here.)
  4. Ribbon
  5. Scissors
  6. Glue/tape OR printable 2.5 inch round label sheets (which you can buy from Amazon here)

What to do:

  1. Print out our “Ramadan Kareem” labels. You can either print them out on regular paper and cut them out with a scissor, or do what we did and print them out on 2.5 inch round sticker labels, which you can find at your local office supplies store or buy from Amazon.
  2. Wash and dry your mason jars. The dishwasher works great for this.
  3. Fill up the mason jars with dates.
  4. Place the flat disc part of the lid on top of the mason jar and affix the labels to the top of the disc. Try your best to keep the labels centered. Screw on the band of the lid.
  5. Tie some ribbon on your mason jar and you’re done!

Give these adorable little gifts to family and friends on the first night of taraweeh and just see how much they love them. Your family and friends will be touched that you thought of them and will inshaAllah make du’aa for you every time they break their fast with a date that you gifted to them. It’s a win-win situation and a wonderful Ramadan tradition to involve your kids in, too. See our photos below for some inspiration!
